“From Possible to Viable" - The Progression of Warehouse Automation Evaluation - A Framework for Transparency & Decision Mastery

In this paper, I introduce the following stages of an evaluation framework.

Possible - Plausible - Probable - Reasonable - Practicable - Feasible - Proven - Viable

The framework represents eight entirely different stages of automation assessment and operational truths. The distance between “possible” and “viable” is where many automation projects struggle because the automation design and behavior within the context of operational fit was never fully understood.

This paper explores:

* Why operational maturity matters more than most ROI models acknowledge

* Why highly optimized systems can create operational disruption

* How variability can wreak havoc with automation assumptions and sensitivities

* Why “proven” is needs a closer look

* Why adaptability may matter more than optimization over the long term

Most importantly, this paper challenges the idea that the goal is simply to automate more.
